Harry A. Woodman
Harry A. Woodman
1928-2008
In Memoriam

Harry A. Woodman, FSA, FALU, ChFC, "one of the good guys," succumbed to congestive heart failure on August 16, 2008, at his home in Redding, CT. The Actuary profession lost an extraordinary champion. He was 80 years old. Harry A. Woodman was an organization man. Whether as Actuary and Chief Underwriter (80-89) for New York Life Insurance Company during his 39 year career; member and then President of the Home Office Life Underwriters Association; member, then Chairperson of the Medical Information Bureau (MIB); consultant, Expert Witness, and chairman of the Medical Impairment Study Committee, he was a notable leader.

In addition Harry served as Co-Chair (1991-92), then Chairperson (1992-93) of the Mortality & Morbidity Liaison Committee (MMLC), which are members representing the Society of Actuaries (SOA), the American Academy of Insurance Medicine (AAIM), and the Association of Home Office Underwriters (AHOU). As chairman of the Medical Impairment Study Committee, Harry was responsible for revitalizing the Society of Actuaries' Individual Life Studies. His insightfulness helped with the reactivation of the ALIMDA/SOA Liaison Committee and the participation of underwriters on this Committee. He will be greatly missed.

Harry is survived by his wife, Betty, four children, and 4 grandchildren. At the request of the family, donations can be made to First Congregational Church of Greenwich, 108 Sound Beach Ave., Old Greenwich, CT. 06870.
